Softball Recap: South Spartans vs. Peninsula Panthers
South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Peninsula Panthers. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
South got a good showing from Ashley Barrett, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Camila Callau made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Barrett, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
South's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Peninsula, their win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2.
South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-2 defeat against San Pedro on the 27th. As for Peninsula, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-1 loss against West on the 28th.
