Basketball Recap: Sumter County Triumphs

On Friday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, the Sumter County Panthers made off with a 52-51 win over the Spencer Greenwave.

When it comes to explaining why Spencer lost, don't look at Demarcus Horne. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 14 on his way to 23 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 23 points gave Horne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Seldon, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points and six rebounds.

Sumter County's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Spencer, they moved to 8-3 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Sumter County Panthers challenge the Crisp County Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crisp County will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Sumter County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Spencer, they will welcome Shaw at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
