Basketball Recap: Gulf Coast Skates Past Lehigh with Ease

Gulf Coast won the last time they faced Lehigh and things went their way on Monday too. The Gulf Coast Sharks took their matchup with ease, bagging a 57-23 win over the Lehigh Lightning. The Sharks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Gulf Coast was led to victory by Lilly Fultz and Jena Walsh. Fultz went 9 for 17 en route to 22 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while Walsh went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Those seven steals gave Fultz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kiara Rakes, who posted eight points.

Gulf Coast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lehigh only pulled down six offensive boards.

Despite the defeat, Lehigh saw an underclassman step up: freshman Terryah Lawson scored 19 points and seven boards.

Gulf Coast has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Lehigh, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-12.

Gulf Coast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-38 defeat against Charlotte on the 30th. As for Lehigh, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-12 loss against Naples on the 29th.
