Baseball Game Preview: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Elko Indians

For the second straight game, Fernley will face off against Elko. The Vaqueros will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Indians at 11:00 a.m.

Fernley took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Elko by a score of 5-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Dylon Comer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Fernley is 5-2 when Comer allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-12-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Riley McCullar was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Fernley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 3-12-1 when he doesn't).

Elko is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Fernley, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-14-1.
