Softball Recap: Carmel Greyhounds vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders        
        
		
            
 Carmel came into Wednesday's   matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mt. Vernon Marauders  a   2-0 shutout  on Wednesday. The  victory was just what Carmel needed coming off of  a  10-1 loss in their prior  contest.
  Chelsea Bennett looked comfortable as she  didn't allow a single  earned run and  only two  hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.  Gracyn Erickson picked up the save,   tossing three innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit (she also only allowed one  walk).
 On the hitting side, Carmel's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was  Ellie Goddard, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 2-for-3.
 On Mt. Vernon's side, they got a good showing from  Cora Rush, who   tossed four innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   three  hits.
 Carmel  made their fans wait, but they earned their first win of the season to make their record 1-3. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
 Carmel will stay at home for another  game and welcome Evansville North at 9:00  a.m.  on Saturday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to  take on  Franklin Central at 6:00  p.m.  on Wednesday.
