Football Game Preview: Atholton Raiders vs. Westminster Owls

After each having a week off, the Atholton Raiders and the Westminster Owls will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another on the 14th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Atholton took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Glenelg by a score of 40-28.

Tyler Bell had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 68 yards and one score on only six carries. He is becoming a predictor of Atholton's success: when he posts at least 250 passing yards the team is 5-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Darin Smith also helped with two TDs in total.

Atholton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Christopher Thompson and Jamal Kelly. Another thorn in Glenelg's side was David Tucker, who picked up a sack and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Westminster came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.9 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Falcons, posting a 42-0 win. Considering the Owls have won five games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Atholton's record now sits at 6-3. As for Westminster, their record is now 8-1.
