Atlanta and Redwater are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Atlanta will venture away from home to face off against Redwater at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Atlanta barely beat New Boston the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Atlanta never let New Boston get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Rabbits, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Gabby Arredondo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Atlanta let Ella Garrett and Keirsten Underwood run wild. Garrett went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Underwood went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Gabby Petrofsky was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Redwater). They were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over Liberty-Eylau on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Like Atlanta, Redwater also got a great game from a two-way player: Addison Bruner. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bruner was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kyndlee Clark and Laney Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Clark scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Johnson scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Johnson a new career-high. Alivia Thompson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Redwater pushed their record up to 5-12-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Atlanta, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 13-7-1.
Atlanta couldn't quite finish off Redwater in their previous meeting on March 4th and fell 6-4. Can Atlanta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
