Baseball Recap: Woodsville Takes Down Ranked Blue Mountain

Woodsville is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Blue Mountain. The Engineers had just enough and edged out the Bucks 8-7. That's two games straight that the Engineers have won by just one run.

Jacob Putnam made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Putnam was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Walker, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Gabe Roy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Woodsville pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Blue Mountain, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Woodsville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bucks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
