Carroll hasn't had much luck against Yorktown recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Chargers are taking a road trip to take on the Tigers at 9:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Carroll comes in on 33 and Yorktown on six.
Carroll is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Warsaw, who was ranked tenth at the time (Carroll was ranked third). The Chargers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday.
Carroll's got stronger as the match went on, holding Warsaw to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.
Carroll's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cala Haffner, who had ten digs and three aces, and Lauren Peters, who had four digs and three aces. That's the most aces Haffner has posted over her last six matches.
Meanwhile, Yorktown was able to grind out a solid win over Cathedral on Thursday, taking the game 3-1.
Yorktown had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17.
Carroll's record is now 20-0. As for Yorktown, their record now sits at 15-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Carroll has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Carroll's way against Yorktown when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Carroll made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
