Basketball Recap: Makayla Hatcher's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westfield over Penn

Westfield easily dispatched Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Westfield Shamrocks fell just short of the Penn Kingsmen by a score of 40-37 on Saturday.

Westfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Makayla Hatcher, who posted four points. Aubrey Crockett was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Penn was led to victory by Jessa Troy and Addison Hummel. Troy had 16 points and four steals, while Hummel almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards. Troy has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played.

Westfield's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Penn, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Westfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 42-27 victory against Floyd Central on the 28th. As for Penn, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-53 defeat against Northridge on the 28th.
