Football Game Preview: Martin County Tigers vs. Sebastian River Sharks

The Martin County Tigers will square off against the Sebastian River Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Martin County has three straight victories, Sebastian River has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sebastian River's offense is going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Martin County hadn't allowed a single point the last three times they've hit the field. The Tigers' defense stepped up to hand Dwyer a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Panthers are ranked 287th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Martin County had a senior duo take command as Calista Scornavacca threw for 194 yards and two TDs while completing 80% of her passes and Delaney Gribben picked up 87 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Martin County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lily Leonardson and Bella Watson.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Sebastian River's offense. They lost 21-0 to South Fork last Tuesday.

Martin County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.3 points on average over those games. As for Sebastian River, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Martin County skirted past Sebastian River 21-18 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
