Basketball Recap: Marana Takes a Loss

Marana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 55-33 to the Rincon/University Rangers. The Tigers lost against the Rangers in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-23 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Marana lost, don't look at Adrian Griffin. Despite the final result, she posted ten points and seven rebounds. Malaysia Roebuck was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Leila O'Dowd was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds for Rincon/University. That makes it three consecutive games in which O'Dowd has scored at least a third of Rincon/University's points. Another player making a difference was Daphne Safo, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Marana's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Rincon/University, they pushed their record up to 15-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Marana didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-42 loss against Tucson High Magnet School on the 28th. As for Rincon/University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-43 win against Sunnyside on the 28th.
