Basketball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Friendly Patriots. The Falcons were probably out for revenge after losing 66-62 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quincy Taylor Ll, who posted 19 points. The matchup was Taylor Ll's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Harper, who earned 13 points.

Friendly was led to victory by Nijel Trice and Xavier Brewer. Trice went 6 of 7 en route to 12 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards, while Brewer went 7 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Those 14 points gave Brewer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Roach, who put up 11 points and five assists.

Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Friendly, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.

Central has already played their next contest (against Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Friendly wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-39 loss against Potomac on the 23rd.
