HCYA has gone 8-1 against St. John recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. HCYA will take on the St. John's Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. HCYA is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
HCYA proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Incarnate Word Academy 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory HCYA has posted since January 28th.

Kiran Kyham was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bijan Ali, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
HCYA was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .455 or higher in six consecutive games.
While St. John's didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past First Baptist Christian 16-1 on Saturday. Considering the Mavericks have won four matchups by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophie Phillpott was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ally Hong was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Yutia Li was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
HCYA is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. The win was the third in a row for St. John's, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Both HCYA and St. John's just can't seem to miss. HCYA has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like St. John's struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
HCYA took their victory against St. John's in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-6. Will HCYA repeat their success, or does St. John's have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
