Basketball Recap: Shaniya Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rockledge over Merritt Island Christian

Rockledge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Merritt Island Christian Cougars. If the Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 67-48 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Rockledge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shaniya Jones, who posted seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Bradley, who put up 20 points.

Summer Snaith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Merritt Island Christian, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards. Those 18 rebounds gave Snaith a new career-high. Kiana Montecalvo was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

Rockledge's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Merritt Island Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9.

Rockledge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-5 victory against Astronaut on the 14th. Merritt Island Christian has also already played their next match (against First Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
