Baseball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nolan Snell and Tyler Frierdich Lead Gibault Catholic to Victory

Gibault Catholic barely beat Sparta the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Not much got past Peyton Schaefer, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Sparta off the board. Schaefer has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gibault Catholic let Tyler Frierdich and Nolan Snell run wild. Frierdich went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI, while Snell went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Frierdich has posted since back in March. Dylan Schaefer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Gibault Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sparta struck out seven times.

Gibault Catholic's record is now 3-11. As for Sparta, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gibault Catholic will welcome Red Bud at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sparta, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians/Lady Indians have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
