The Schaumburg Saxons are taking a road trip to challenge the Jacobs Golden Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Schaumburg's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Jacobs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Tuesday, Schaumburg got the win against Larkin by a conclusive 12-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saxons.
Madison Linnemann made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Alexa Evans was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Jordan Murtaugh was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Schaumburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Larkin only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Jacobs suffered their biggest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 13-4 to Huntley. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jacobs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Molly Hoch, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
The victory got Schaumburg back to even at 2-2. As for Jacobs, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Schaumburg's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Saxons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Jacobs, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Schaumburg continue to outrun the ball?
Schaumburg might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Jacobs in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Saxons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
