McDonald has gone 9-1 against Springfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. McDonald's pitching crew has only allowed 0.9 runs per game this season, so Springfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
McDonald is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Poland Seminary just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 1-0.
Meanwhile, Springfield got themselves on the board against Lowellville on Thursday, but Lowellville never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Rockets. Considering the Tigers have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kensley Schrode made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Springfield got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Chachko, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Chachko a new career-high. Giuliana Battaglini was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Springfield's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-8. As for McDonald, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McDonald hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went McDonald's way against Springfield in their previous matchup last Thursday, as McDonald made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
