While Gretna's victory against Chatham wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Gretna Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 69-66 win over the Chatham Cavaliers on Friday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Despite the defeat, Chatham saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amare Word went 7-for-16 to rack up 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Word continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kobe Reynolds was another key player, going 7-for-12 en route to 17 points.

Gretna pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points over those games. As for Chatham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.

Gretna didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-48 victory against William Campbell on the 18th. As for Chatham, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-48 loss against Dan River on the 17th.
