Basketball Game Preview: South Brunswick Cougars vs. New Hanover Wildcats

South Brunswick hasn't had much luck against New Hanover recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the South Brunswick Cougars take on the New Hanover Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.

South Brunswick is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Monday. They were dealt an 81-44 defeat at the hands of North Brunswick.

Meanwhile, New Hanover had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 84-62 margin over the Screaming Eagle. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

South Brunswick better keep an eye on Rodmik Allen. He was instrumental in New Hanover's win, going 8 for 20 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Kornegay, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

New Hanover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

South Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for New Hanover, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

South Brunswick took a serious blow against New Hanover in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 107-38. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point South Brunswick was down 57-22.
