Softball Game Preview: Shepard Astros vs. Reavis Rams

Shepard has gone a perfect 10-0 against Reavis recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Astros will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Shepard's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Reavis' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Shepard is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Bremen with a sharp 16-2 victory on Thursday. The Astros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.

Reavis let Saint Ignatius College Prep stack four runs on them in the third inning on Friday but luckily Reavis prevailed anyway. The Rams narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wolfpack 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Reavis' victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Welsh, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Shepard is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Reavis, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-11.

Shepard was able to grind out a solid win over Reavis in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Astros repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
