Casey Lyons was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Payton DeTray and Lyla Carrizales did most of the damage at the plate: DeTray went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Carrizales went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Megan Sumner was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Anthony Wayne hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Avon's offense. They fell just short of Gilmour Academy by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday.
Maria Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.
Anthony Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 23-2. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.
