Softball Recap: Howardsville Christian Takes a Loss

Howardsville Christian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the River Valley Mustangs, falling 15-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

As for River Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

For River Valley's part, Greta Vollma made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Vollma has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addy Lynch was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Laney Strother, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Howardsville Christian will welcome Eau Claire at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.86 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. River Valley has already played their next game (against Westville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
