Volleyball Recap: Verrado Vipers vs. Canyon View Jaguars
After flying high against Desert Edge last Tuesday, Verrado came back down to earth. The Verrado Vipers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canyon View Jaguars on Thursday. The Vipers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Verrado started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
Journey Taylor and Baylee Wakeham certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Taylor had 26 digs, while Wakeham had four digs and two aces.
Canyon View had a senior duo take command as Simone Jones had 11 digs and Sophia Alvarez had nine digs. Those nine digs set a new season-high mark for Alvarez.
Verrado's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Canyon View, they pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Verrado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against North Canyon on the 30th. Canyon View has also already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Buckeye on the 30th.
