Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Maxwell Panthers

The Mt. Shasta Bears will challenge the Maxwell Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Mt. Shasta turned things around against Weed on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-4 win. That looming 12-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bears yet this season.

Hayden Porteous made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, BEN KENNEDY was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those hits were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keikea Ferguson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maxwell). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Williams a 29-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Maxwell pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Mt. Shasta, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
