Softball Recap: George Jenkins Starts off Right with Win over Mulberry

George Jenkins had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mulberry Panthers a 14-0 shutout. The Eagles have beaten the Panthers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Layla Hinojosa and Jazlyn Duque made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hinojosa tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Duque pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February of 2024. At bat, Hinojosa went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Duque went 1-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. The dominant performance gave Duque a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Kamryn Pickering was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Audrey Gideon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

George Jenkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mulberry only posted a batting average of .000.

Mulberry is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. George Jenkins will face off against Fort Meade at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mulberry, they will take on Lake Region at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
