Basketball Recap: Cairo Takes a Loss

Cairo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 30th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Westover Patriots, falling 50-24. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Syrupmakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-28 back in January.

Despite the loss, Cairo still got an impressive performance from Shaquara Mills, who posted six points and 11 rebounds. Mills is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Savannah Holt, who had four points and four steals.

Sydney Donaldson was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 21 en route to 29 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals for Westover. That makes it four consecutive games in which Donaldson has scored at least a third of Westover's points. Savannah Donaldson was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points along with six boards and four steals.

Cairo's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Westover, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.

Cairo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-29 defeat against Peach County on the 7th. As for Westover, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 45-34 loss against Bainbridge on the 6th.
