Basketball Recap: Westminster Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Alexander Lloyd and Dwight Gaines Jr.

Westminster Academy suffered their biggest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 92-68 to The Villages Charter Buffalo. The game was a 35-35 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.

Dwight Gaines Jr. and Alexander Lloyd certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Gaines Jr. went 10 of 23 en route to 28 points, while Lloyd went 6 for 15 on his way to 25 points and five assists. Lloyd's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Garang Dheiu also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Leading The Villages Charter to victory were Jared Thompson and Adyn Corbin. Thompson went 9 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points, while Corbin shot 6-for-10 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine assists. That's the most assists Corbin has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaron Britt, Jr., who went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points and eight assists.

Westminster Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for The Villages Charter, their record is now 17-5.

Westminster Academy has already played their next matchup, an 86-61 defeat against Columbus on the 28th. As for The Villages Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-40 victory against Lake Minneola on the 29th.
