Softball Game Preview: Boone Braves vs. Colonial Grenadiers

Boone is 9-1 against Colonial since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Thursday, Boone came up short against Cornerstone Charter Academy and fell 10-6.

Samantha Johnson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.1 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Kalyn Woods and Ava Solberg did some serious damage despite the final result: Woods scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Solberg went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Woods continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lily Surber also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Even though they lost, Boone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Colonial lost 11-1 to Innovation last Wednesday. The Grenadiers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Boone has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. Colonial now has a losing record of 4-5.

Boone was able to grind out a solid win over Colonial in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 5-0. Does Boone have another victory up their sleeve, or will Colonial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
