Softball Recap: St. John's Mavericks vs. First Baptist Christian Warriors
St. John barely beat First Baptist Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The St. John's Mavericks were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the First Baptist Christian Warriors on Saturday. Considering the Mavericks have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophie Phillpott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.
