Baseball Game Preview: East Wilkes Cardinals vs. Starmount Rams

The East Wilkes Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Starmount Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

North Stokes hit East Wilkes with a four-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cardinals came up short against the Vikings, falling 11-1. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, Starmount got the win against Alleghany on Thursday by a conclusive 14-2. Considering the Rams have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Emmanuel Vasquez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Starmount has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for East Wilkes, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.

East Wilkes might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Starmount when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
