Basketball Game Preview: San Tan Foothills Sabercats vs. Gilbert Christian Knights

San Tan Foothills hasn't had much luck against Gilbert Christian recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The San Tan Foothills Sabercats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gilbert Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m.

San Tan Foothills is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They lost to Benjamin Franklin on the road by a 56-41 margin.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Cienna Witcher, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. San Tan Foothills is 2-1 when Witcher posts eight or more boards, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashleigh Hanson, who posted seven points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 47-22 win.

Gilbert Christian's win came from a few key players San Tan Foothills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kaila Aston, who went 7 of 9 on her way to 17 points. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tylee Fox, who had 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Gilbert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Gilbert Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points per game. As for San Tan Foothills, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

San Tan Foothills suffered a grim 69-44 defeat to Gilbert Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can San Tan Foothills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
