Softball Game Preview: Southside Seahawks vs. Lejeune Devil Pups

Southside and Lejeune are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Seahawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Devil Pups at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Southside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Southside and Jones, and Jones kept the tradition alive. The Seahawks fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 5-4 last Thursday. The Seahawks' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lily McLean and Dana Ransom did some serious damage despite the final result: McLean went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Ransom went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. McLean has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 16 times she's played.

Meanwhile, Lejeune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Southwest Onslow, falling 15-0. That's two games in a row now that the Devil Pups have lost by exactly 15 runs.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8-1. As for Lejeune, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12-1.

Everything went Southside's way against Lejeune in their previous meeting on April 8th, as Southside made off with a 12-0 win. Will the Seahawks repeat their success, or do the Devil Pups have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
