Baseball Game Preview: Farragut Admirals vs. Mather Rangers

For the second straight game, Farragut will face off against Mather. The Admirals will welcome the Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Farragut has three straight wins, Mather has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Farragut beat Mather 6-3.

Ben DeMateo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Robert DeMateo and Freddy Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Robert went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Garcia got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. DeMateo is becoming a predictor of Farragut's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Nico Roman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Farragut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mather's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Farragut, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.

Mather's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Farragut hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. It's a different story for Mather, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Farragut's hitters?
