Softball Recap: Grand Valley Find Success

Grand Valley won the last time they faced Conneaut and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mustangs walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Spartans.

Ady Kovacic was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Kovacic was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Violet Morse and Jenna Poyer did most of the damage at the plate: Morse went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Poyer went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Poyer has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Paulic, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Grand Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Grand Valley picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Conneaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand Valley will take on Bloomfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Conneaut, they will host Perry at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
