League recap: Douglas Byrd rises in state rank

3A Conference 12 recap September 10, 2013

Douglas Byrd moved up to 66 from 103 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Conference 12. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Jack Britt 17-14.

Westover fell to E.E. Smith 36-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Derrick Fitts was a bright spot for the Wolverines, as he threw for 110 yards in the defeat.

Westover's dynamic duo of Fitts and Deonte Richardson proved tough for the Golden Bulls to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Edward McLauchlin helped Westover's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 38 yards.

Greg Bryant's team's dynamic duo of Fitts and Richardson proved to be unstoppable against E.E. Smith, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Devaughn Speed was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 120 yards on 10 carries as Grays Creek lost to Ernest King's team. Justis Richardson also contributed to the rushing game with 97 yards on the ground.

Fitts put up the best numbers through the air as Westover lost to the Golden Bulls.

Jonathan Blackmon provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Terry Sanford lost to Pine Forest. He completed 6 passes for 51 yards and also ran for 112 yards. Blackmon's key target this week was Shamon Elliott, who caught 3 passes for 37 yards.

Richardson was the best receiver in the league this week as the Wolverines fell to E.E. Smith.

Southern Lee's Emond Caldwell and Aaron Blockmon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Conference 12 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Caldwell has thrown for 467 yards this season, while Blockmon has 19 catches for 326 yards. Jahmaal Daniel from the Bulldogs leads the league in rushing with 346 yards.

The Cavaliers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 31 points on the Cavaliers.
