Softball Recap: Talawanda Wins Going Away Against Waynesville

Talawanda gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 14-8 margin over the Waynesville Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Brave, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kylie Cobb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrey Hilbert, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaylee Griffin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Talawanda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Talawanda has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Waynesville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Talawanda beat the Spartans by a score of 12-0 later that day.
