Baseball Recap: Exeter Monarchs vs. Hanford West Huskies
Exeter fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hanford West on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 last Wednesday.
Cade McElmoyl put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Exeter's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3. As for Hanford West, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Exeter will challenge Morro Bay at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
