Baseball Recap: Exeter's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Exeter fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hanford West on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 last Wednesday.

Cade McElmoyl put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

McElmoyl wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madden Pasos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Exeter's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3. As for Hanford West, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Exeter will challenge Morro Bay at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Monarchs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Hanford West, they will take on Washington Union at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 4.1, the Panthers 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
