Softball Game Preview: Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans vs. Wagener-Salley War Eagles

For the second straight game, Ridge Spring-Monetta will face off against Wagener-Salley. The Trojans will take on the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge Spring-Monetta has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Ridge Spring-Monetta couldn't beat Wagener-Salley on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Trojans came up short against the War Eagles, falling 16-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the War Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

For Wagener-Salley's part, Kylee Hooker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Hooker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenley Walling, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Calee Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Wagener-Salley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Wagener-Salley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
