Baseball Game Preview: Paoli Rams vs. West Washington Senators

Paoli is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Thursday. They will challenge the West Washington Senators at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Paoli is headed out to face West Washington after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Rams' pitchers stepped up to hand Shoals a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Jug Rox recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Austin Chastain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chastain was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cooper Spires and Kirkland Hughes did most of the damage at the plate: Spires scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Hughes scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave Spires a new career-high. Garrett Hickman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, West Washington made easy work of Christian Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 16-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Senators.

Hayden Morrow was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Paoli couldn't quite finish off West Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
