Baseball Game Preview: River Valley Panthers vs. Greater Johnstown Trojans

The River Valley Panthers will face off against the Greater Johnstown Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. River Valley is looking for their season's first win.

It was a proper cat-fight when River Valley faced off against United on Thursday. River Valley fell 12-7 to United. One positive for the Panthers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Sammy Yanits made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Yanits is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Vresilovic, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Yanits wasn't the only one working in the home run department: River Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Greater Johnstown's offense. They came up short against Chestnut Ridge on Thursday, falling 11-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost five in a row.

River Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Greater Johnstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
