Soccer Game Preview: McCollum vs. Southwest

McCollum is 0-9 against Southwest since March of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The McCollum Cowboys will challenge the Southwest Dragons at 7:30 p.m. McCollum's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

McCollum took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They skirted past Southwest Legacy 2-1. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cowboys' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 731st, while the Titans are ranked 312th).

Meanwhile, Southwest's undefeated season came to an end after 19 games on Friday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was Southwest Legacy who was credited with the victory. Southwest Legacy got it done in the shootout by posting 12 goals to Southwest's 11. Having soared to a lofty nine goals in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

McCollum moved to 6-16-2 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 19-1.

McCollum suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Southwest in their previous meeting back in February. Can McCollum avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
