Baseball Game Preview: Burbank Titans vs. Valley Vikings

For the second straight game, Burbank will face off against Valley. The Titans will square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Burbank's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Burbank took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Valley 22-4. Considering the Titans have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Uriel Angulo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Burbank: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Burbank got a massive performance out of Mario Mendoza, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Mendoza a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Duplessis, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Burbank always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley only posted an OBP of .409.

Burbank's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-9 record.
