Softball Recap: East Canton Gets the Win

East Canton came out on top against Buckeye Trail on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Hornets took their contest against the Warriors 8-4. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Caidynce Murphy made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cailyn John, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Slentz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

East Canton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

East Canton's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Buckeye Trail, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-16 record.

Buckeye Trail wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-9 win against Cambridge on the 5th. Hopefully East Canton paid attention to the Warriors' game: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
