Baseball Recap: Lakewood's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Lakewood dropped their record down to 10-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 8-2 to the Waverly Warriors. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Waverly, their record is now 9-4. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Waverly's part, Jackson Gomez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Gomez a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Iggy Arroyo was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Dom Stone also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will host Lansing Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waverly, they will take on Eaton Rapids at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
