Preview: Emery Spartans vs. Richfield Wildcats

Emery and Richfield are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Emery Spartans will be home for the holidays to greet the Richfield Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Emery on the road against Delta as the team secured a 65-35 victory.

Emery's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kenadie Maughan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds, and Katelyn Nielson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Maughan's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aliya Lester, who scored 16 points.

Meanwhile, Richfield faced Beaver in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Richfield's way against Beaver on Saturday as Richfield made off with a 52-32 win. The win was familiar territory for Richfield who now have four in a row.

Richfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hallie Janes out in front who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 2 assists. Kamryn Knutson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Emery's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Richfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Emery came up short against Richfield in their previous matchup back in February, falling 52-39. Thankfully for Emery, Nicole Willardson (who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
