Baseball Game Preview: Welsh Greyhounds vs. Delcambre Panthers

The Welsh Greyhounds will face off against the Delcambre Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Welsh barely beat St. Martinville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Welsh's pitchers stepped up to hand St. Martinville an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. That looming 8-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Greyhounds yet this season.

Dane Iguess and Brecken Haydel did most of the damage at the plate: Iguess scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Haydel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Haydel has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grant Haydel, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Welsh hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Martinville struck out 12 times.

Meanwhile, Delcambre had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Abbeville 15-0 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Tucker Zager, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Delcambre is undefeated when Zager posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Rix Robin, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Welsh has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. The win got Delcambre back to even at 8-8.

Welsh suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Delcambre when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can Welsh avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
