Basketball Recap: Concord Academy Picks Up 22nd Straight Win at Home

On Friday, Concord Academy faced Gaston Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Concord Academy Eagles took down the Gaston Christian Eagles 68-54. Winning may never get old, but Concord Academy sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Concord Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gray Madeira out in front who went 8 for 13 en route to 22 points and three steals. Madeira is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Lincoln Raper was another key player, going 8 of 13 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Concord Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Gaston Christian lost, don't look at Cameron Newman. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Newman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dario Williams, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.
