Football Recap: Ninety Six Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Ninety Six duked it out with Crescent on Friday. The Wildcats were beaten by the Tigers 59-21. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.

Crescent's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Evans led the charge by throwing for 146 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 57 yards and one score on only seven carries. The Tigers' leading receiver Amiri Acker was Evans' top target yet again, picking up 84 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 49 yards and one score.

Ninety Six's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Crescent, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Ninety Six will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pelion at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. As for Crescent, they will host Liberty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Red Devils' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.6 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
