Softball Recap: River Islands Riptide vs. Millennium Falcons
River Islands extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They came up short against the Millennium Falcons, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on April 3rd.
As for Millennium, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Millennium's part, Hayden Faaborg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Faaborg has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Millennium let Lanie Gonzalez and Nora Coutts run wild. Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Coutts went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Coutts has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adrian Washburn, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. River Islands is set to square off against their familiar foe Venture Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Millennium will face off against rival Aspire Langston Hughes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
